Nature’s Palette Nature-Based Dye Workshop

Nature based dyes have been used for millenia to bring color to the world of textiles. After a century of decling use, nature dyes are once again being taken up by textile dyers that want to lessen their impact on the environment. Darlene Hayes, owner of the artisianal yarn company Hand Jive which uses only nature- based dyes, will use this half-day workshop to share her secrets to using plants to get fabulous colors on all manner of yarns. Participants will have the opportunity to dye enough yarn to knit a pair of socks (or something equivalent size) as well as some unspun wool that can be used for felting or spinning.

Learn to spin your own yarn. Use a drop spindle to turn wool into yarn of your own design. If you attended our first class, you can practice your skills, try a new fiber, improve your singles, or learn to ply your single into a yarn that’s ready to knit, crochet or weave. Drop spindles will be available for use during the class or bring your own spindle.
