We will explore how to apply a variety of borders onto a center panel (rectangle or triangle or square.) This technique makes beautiful scarves as well as shawls.

DYE DAY: Fee $65.00 Color, color, color!!!!!!! Let’s make color! This class is an introduction to dyeing with acid dyes. We’ll have a dash of color theory, sprinkles of dye, and a big, SPLASH of color. In the morning, we’ll work with the techniques of dyeing with acid dye and everybody will make some samples to get their toes (or fingers) wet. In the afternoon, everybody will pick (or design) a color and dye enough yarn or fiber for a small project. (This is an immersion dyeing process, not a hand-painting process.)

Bring gloves, apron and wear old clothes. Bring a bucket or other waterproof container to take home your wet project at the end of the day. (Do not wear open toe shoes!) Bring 4 - 8 ounces of yarn or loose fiber (no roving) to dye for your own project. Fiber content must be: any wool, llama, alpaca, silk, nylon or soy silk. (If you have a question about the fiber or yarn you want to dye…. PLEASE ASK AHEAD OF TIME!)

MORE THAN FAIR ISLE: 3 - 4 hours Fee $45.00 — Knit with two colors at the same time! Jeane deCoster of Elemental Affects, will teach a Fair Isle knitting class. Fair Isle (or 2 color stranded knitting) is a technique best done in the round. Just think — no purling! Learn how to knit with one color in each hand, how to knit, cut (yes, CUT) and finish steeks for a beautiful sweater. Knitters with some experience in this knitting technique who would like to plan and start a sweater instead of participating in our introductory project are welcome to join us.

Materials: everybody will need to get 2 colors of my fingering weight yarn (the lighter weight stuff) and size 5 circular needles. (I don’t know the length of the needles yet as I’m not sure of the finished project yet :))
