Knit Cook 4 Cast Ons/ 2 Bind Offs

11:00 amto1:00 pm

4 Cast Ons/ 2 Bind Offs - Techniques That Every Knitter Should Know (2hours) $25
There are scores of methods for casting on and binding off, but every knitter should have at the ready a handful of techniques that work best in different situations. We’ll explore what I think are the essentials, and if we have time will learn some fun, decorative cast on/bind off methods as well. Please bring smooth, light-colored sport weight yarn and needles sized 5 or 6. You should also bring 1 swatch knitted in single rib (k1,p1) and 3 swatches in stockinette stitch. No one loves homework, but without swatches, what will we use to learn bind off techniques? So, just put the live stitches on some waste yarn or a stitch holder.

I get many questions about the Habu yarns I use in my designs. In this class you will have a chance to swatch with a large variety of Habu yarns, combining two, three or even four strands to see what textures you come up with. We will work with stainless steel, copper, raw silk, pineapple, nettle, as well as wool, cotton and linen. While you are swatching, I will discuss where and how to use the different textures with examples from my trunk show.

Materials fee: $10-20

**cocoknits Sweater Conversion**

October 30, 2011
10:00 amto1:00 pm

Instructor: Julie Weisenberger 1 class $40

*Cocoknits Seamless Sweater Construction (3 hours)

Do you hate seaming sweaters? This class will teach you how to transform a seamed sweater pattern into a seamless pattern.

We will use the Gisela pattern from cocoknits and go through the pattern in class to transform it into seamless construction featuring set-in sleeves and English Tailored shoulders. You will learn how to pull the relevant numbers out of the written pattern and plot them onto a spread sheet (like Takako does for the Japanese patterns) and use this as your pattern. Once you have learned on this sweater pattern you should be able to transform other patterns.
