Make this beautiful scarf or shawl
Over 19959 projects made from this pattern! Inspired by an issue of Knitty.com

Students choose whether they want to make a scarf or a shawl we recommend that they do a scarf at least 10 inches wide to really get the effect of the bias fabric created by the Clapotis pattern. Students will need to get the appropriate yardage for the size project they would like to complete.
The pattern is written for a wrap that finishes at 21 inches wide by 55 inches long. For this size and a gauge of 4.75 sts to the inch, the recommended yardage by the author of the Clapotis pattern is 820 yards.
Materials
Yarn: 400-1000 yards of yarn that will give between 4.5 to 6 stitches to the inch. If a yarn thicker than 4.5 sts per inch is chosen, the drop stitches get too long. If a thinner yarn is chosen, more knitting has to be done to complete the project.
Needles: Size appropriate for yarn chosen. Bring a 4 x 4 swatch to class done in stockinette stitch. I prefer the swatch to be more to the recommended gauge of the yarn rather than too loose because it helps to hold the shape better.
Stitch Markers: 20 of the closed type for a shawl, less needed for scarf

DESIGN YOUR OWN CUSTOM-SIZED TOP-DOWN CARDIGAN

If you come to the Habu yarn tasting and fall in love with a yarn and wonder what you can do with it, why not try a simple, custom-fit cardigan pattern? Or if you have yarn in your stash you’ve been meaning to use…

Come to class with the following:

*4 measurements (Note, I find it more accurate to measure a sweater or shirt that fits you well rather than trying to measure your own body):
From shoulder to shoulder (Across the top of your back from sleeve/shoulder seam to sleeve/shoulder seam)
Upper arm circumference
Bust measurement
Armhole depth
(See http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/sizing.html for information on measuring. If you are using actual body measurements you’ll need to decide how much ease you want. We will discuss this in class but it helps if you’ve thought about how much bigger than your actual measurements you want to knit. This question is answered if you have measured something you like the fit of rather than your actual body).

*1000 - 1400 yards of yarn that gets you 17-20 sts/4″. This can be a very open gauge (like Gisela) or a close gauge (like Katarina).

*Your Stitch and Row gauge.

*Bring paper, pencil and a calculator and we’ll work out the numbers in class to get you going on a simple cardigan that is custom-fit with English Tailored shoulders and set-in sleeves.
